I ask myself all the time and I even come to the conclusion that this decision was made for me a long time ago. I feel like “I didn’t have a “choice it was my destiny. My first hour and it was over; I wanted to know ”how it was made and how did they allow me to make Mario move” an even bigger question how did he get bigger when he ate a mushroom”. Those are the questions in my mind that I needed to answer just the fact that I turned on the TV and a computer was on it was amazing but the fact that I control the computer and make it do different things was blowing the mind of a 7 year old Mike out of this world.

So I chose software engineering because it’s the basis of game programming and I want to know how the software works and how it’s developed; before I get into making my own games.. My interest in software engineering also helps me channel my creativity knowing that I’m helping build something from scratch that could be a benefit to somebody. Would it be automating their daily tasks or just making something you know simple… Software engineering plays a huge role in this technology coming to reality…

But why now why chose to change your life after 17 years as a chef that’s what I asked myself; For my family. This pandemic has changed business models. Besides using my mind and not my body for work is really another reason why I’m pursuing this change. During my career I realized I can’t be standing in the kitchen when I’m 70 years old; but I sure as hell can be programming all the way till I’m dead and that sounds awesome to me. Reason number three was cost. Which my employer Amazon made it pretty much a no-brainer for me to make this career change. I am so appreciative for them making this opportunity available to me and without them I would be in a kitchen somewhere which is not a bad thing it’s just not the where I want to be.
